Gianluca D’Agostino addressed yesterday the MEF Americas panel, entitled ‘Growing the Latam Market - Opportunities & Challenges’, discussing the new leading carrier environments for the mobile commerce.
Exactly one year ago, at the same event, Gianluca announced the absolute determination of Neomobile to invest in mobile commerce in 2011, foreseeing the expansion of the emerging m-commerce markets. He also mentioned Turkey as a reference Mobile Commerce market for the industry.
As a matter of fact, this year was marked with strong investments in m-commerce: the acquisition of Onebip in March, the most significant M&A deal in the M-commerce space in 2011 after PayPal – Zong deal. Furthermore, Neomobile completed in June the acquisition in Turkey of United Cellular Technologies (UCT) from Private Equity Turkven, consolidating a new leader in Turkish market. Today, more than 30% of the Neomobile business is directly related to m-payment, with a rapid growth prospective in the new market landscape.
About the future, Gianluca expressed his 2012 expectations for LatAm and the need of at least one successful m-commerce case study in the region, which would help carriers to build trust in the virtual goods market as an additional revenue stream. Carriers have the opportunity to intercept the shift from e-commerce to mobile commerce, from credit cards to mobile carrier payment, which will be the next big bang of the new global mobile market.
